Following “Star Wars 1313”, “Project Ragtag”, “Battlefront 3”, etc., the “Star Wars” series has lost another promising game. This time it comes from the studio Echtra Games (Torchlight series), founded by Diablo veterans.

The project, called Star Wars: Magellan, was created by Echtra Games in partnership with British NaturalMotion Games (Star Wars: Hunters) until Zynga closed the studio in 2025 and scaled back development.
“Star Wars: Magellan” is positioned as an online AAA action role-playing game powered by Unreal Engine 5. Players can play at least one escaped Jedi (light saber, force) and an exiled Mandalorian (rocket pack, flamethrower).
The game has been in development since 2021
Details about Star Wars: Magellan became known through the personal website of a former Echtra Games artist, discovered by the editors of the portal MP1st. The portfolio includes a short gameplay video.
This two-minute video (see below) demonstrates the gameplay of two characters in Star Wars: Magellan (mission development, destruction of Imperial stormtroopers and droids, tons of gadgets) and animations of various models.
Apparently, Star Wars: Magellan also plans to focus on storytelling, as development has mentioned mechanics to strengthen connections with NPCs. No specifics were given as to what it would reveal.
Star Wars: Magellan was originally planned to be released on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The game fell victim to changes in priorities at Zynga (parent company of Echtra Games) after joining Take-Two Interactive in 2022.
