Cloud Imperium Games’ (CIG) ambitious space sim Star Citizen is helmed by Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts, but it doesn’t look like a billion-dollar game just yet.

Let us remind you that after 14 years of development and $1 billion in crowdfunding costs, Star Citizen is in its “alpha” stage. CIG staff will showcase game progress at recent event streambut the result is not good.

In particular, the developers decided to present the dynamic event “Siege of Orison”, which was originally supposed to be part of alpha version 4.9 (released in mid-July), but was postponed to 4.10 (expected to end of August).

The livestream took place in early August, but is only now attracting media attention

Even though the session was held on a private server, there were plenty of desyncs, slow takes, and errors in the broadcast. “Close your eyes!” – The participant urges the audience as their character’s hand passes through the lever.

Due to issues with the game, developers started venting their frustrations on each other and ended up not completing the campaign. So Jared Huckaby, CIG’s director of content, urged them to stop there.

“They’re hosting their own festivals, making loud promises on YouTube, releasing ships for massive wealth, making a lot of money, while the most basic features of the game don’t work.”—Ganjelf-The-Baked s of Grudge Reddit.

Following the release of Squadron 42, an ambitious story-driven action game in the Star Citizen universe (scheduled for release in 2026, but this is uncertain), CIG will focus on bringing Star Citizen to version 1.0 (expected in 2027-2028).
