Users reported warranty issues with Crucial SSD. The company responds to owners of SSDs whose warranty has expired claiming they can’t replace them because “Consumer operations are closed.” Rather than replacing the drive, Crucial is offering a refund on the cost of the SSD at the time of purchase, which isn’t even half of what similar devices currently retail for.

Micron announced that it will discontinue the Crucial product line in December 2025. The company decided to forget about the consumer market entirely and focus solely on enterprise customers and artificial intelligence data centers. The move also promised to honor all warranty obligations, but it’s clear the company only did the bare minimum.
Previously, Micron/Investment was criticized for not properly fulfilling RAM warranty obligations. As a result, the user received only 37% of the market value of a 48 GB DDR5 kit that failed and required warranty repair. This problem isn’t limited to Micron and Crucial. It was recently reported that SK Hynix is also lowering the warranty return price and refusing to replace equipment.
These companies are not doing anything illegal – they are simply following their warranty policies. And under normal market conditions, feedback on equipment payments is not a problem. But now things have changed. Memory and storage manufacturers are making incredible amounts of money from the development of artificial intelligence, while consumer prices are rising at an alarming rate due to parts shortages.
Fighting a large corporation is a hopeless endeavor. However, in June 2026, right-to-repair activist Louis Rossmann successfully forced Samsung to purchase a defective 4TB 990 Pro SSD for the current price of $1,000 instead of the $330 he paid for it. In addition, the company said any customers in a similar situation will also receive the current market value of the failed device.
It is expected that issues with warranty replacement equipment will increase as more drives fail and components become increasingly scarce.
