War Thunder showcases the first results of work on the AW159 Wildcat, one of the future additions to the game. The developers have not yet revealed all the details, but the basis of the model is already ready, and the main debate lies ahead: which weapons the helicopter will receive and how high its combat rating will be.
The AW159 was built for the British Army and Navy and features modern avionics. In the game, the vehicle is promised to be equipped with radar and a defense system with radiation warning and countermeasures. The model is currently undergoing detailed development; at the same time, the team is developing weapons that will largely determine the Wildcat’s role on the battlefield.
The main new feature will be the Martlet homing missile. Depending on the configuration, the helicopter will be able to carry 5, 10 or 20 of these munitions at a time. They are not suitable against main battle tanks, but they are very useful against light armored vehicles and especially other helicopters. The developers have not yet tested its effectiveness in combat.
In addition, units with SPIKE ATGM improvements are being prepared for the AW159. Whether the Wildcat will receive these missiles will be decided after preliminary tests: their addition will significantly increase the combat rating of the vehicle. Full information on the AW159 will be released once the model and weapon are completed, and the characteristics themselves may still change before release.
