Let’s remember that Horizon Hunters Gathering launched in early February and didn’t excite fans. This spring, the game went through two public betas, after which the developers stopped communicating. Now the reason is clear.
According to a Schreier source with knowledge of PlayStation’s plans, the platform holder’s management decided to reboot Horizon Hunters Gathering – an updated version they have been developing since June – against the backdrop of negative player reaction.

The new plan is to ditch the service game elements and turn Horizon Hunters Gathering into a more traditional cooperative action game “Much smaller” with story mode.
According to reports, Guerrilla Games has until December to impress management with a new version of Horizon Hunters Gathering. In addition, many employees have been transferred to other projects and will also be evaluated at the end of the year.

According to Schreier’s sources, Sony Studios wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on failed game services with “God of War,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man” and “The Last of Us.” Still, the company hasn’t given up trying to break into the genre.
Meanwhile, a small team within Guerrilla (compared to Hunters Gathering) is still developing a sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West, which has been confirmed for spring 2023, with a potential Horizon 3 awaiting release “The Years of Separation”.
