Grand Theft Auto 6 material from an anonymous source nicknamed Cyberleek has surfaced on the internet, causing a huge stir in the gaming community. In addition to releasing gameplay footage featuring Jason, interface elements, and a preliminary map of Leonidas, the event also attracted attention with its ideological manifesto – the so-called Cyberleek Edict.
The leaker sought to portray himself as a crusader for consumer rights, speaking out against digital pre-orders without physical discs, blocked content, and shutting down single-player game servers. However, expert investigations and statements from human rights groups were quick to point to the dubious background of what happened.
- Cryptocurrency traces. All releases were accompanied by an advertisement for $CYBERLEEK memcoin on the Solana blockchain, which was posted days before the leak. Investors’ funds were allegedly collected for “secret projects,” but there’s no real evidence of a link between the hack and protecting gamers’ funds.
- Account authenticity issues. Security experts discovered that profiles distributing profiles, including accounts with prefixes V2), changed their names multiple times and posted images generated by neural networks, which is why their authenticity has been questioned.
- Industry reaction. Rockstar Games itself has traditionally not commented publicly on the matter, but was soon flooded with DMCA requests to the platform to remove content, indirectly confirming the leak of an actual working version of the game from 2023.
