The pre-release phase of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has begun. Developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision have prepared fans for the first-person shooter’s multiplayer mode through a three-minute gameplay trailer. Accompanied by a hip-hop soundtrack, the film showcases an explosive mix of fast-paced firefights, vehicular combat, and tactical gadgets on different maps around the world. This information will be released before the start of the first closed beta phase on August 21, 2026, during which pre-orderers can experience the online mode for the first time.
The gameplay trailer details the map structure and modes on offer. When sales begin on October 23, 2026, players can look forward to a total of 12 classic 6v6 maps, located around the world to provide diverse tactics for snipers and melee experts.
In addition to the large-scale battles of the Ground War mode, the film also highlights the new Kill Box mode. In this case, modular battlefields dynamically reconfigure between rounds, enabling hundreds of different room and map layouts and forcing players to constantly adapt. The trailer also teases the return of the tactical atomic bomb as the final killstreak.
In the video, the developers remind PC gamers of the technical requirements for online play. In order to effectively support the Ricochet anti-cheat system, the game requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled on the PC.
Players who complete the beta phase can unlock up to 19 weapons and beta modes, such as “Search and Destroy” or “Kill Box.” Following the first testing weekend for pre-orderers from August 21st to 25th, an open beta phase for all platforms will begin from August 28th to September 1st. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, 2026.
