From August 26 to 30, 2026, Gamescom will open its doors to professional visitors and gamers from all over the world on the Cologne Messe website. The world’s largest computer and video gaming event is set to break new records this year, as organizers and host Geoff Keighley announced in a preview. More than 1,600 exhibitors will be present in 233,000 square meters of exhibition area. Traditionally, the kickoff is the two-hour Opening Night Live (ONL) show on August 25, which is expected to be watched live by millions of fans.
For this year’s Opening Night Live, organizers are promising an action-packed program with plenty of announcements, game premieres, and fresh trailer footage. In addition to host Geoff Keighley, well-known esports host Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere will host the event for the first time.
Beyond that, the focus is on introducing material from high-profile games such as the expansion packs The Witcher 3: Song of the Past and Final Fantasy VII: Revelations. The show’s lineup will also be supplemented by brand-new games such as 4A Games’ shooter Metro 2039, NetEase’s action game Ananta, SOMA developer’s newly released role-playing game ONTOS, and gameplay scenarios from Gears of War: E-Day. To judge the show, an internal committee selects the most frequently requested and exciting innovations from submissions from all publishers.
Visitors can also watch the full program at the exhibition centre. Major industry giants such as Xbox, Nintendo, Sega, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, HoYoverse and NetEase all have their own booths in the exhibition hall. Upcoming games include long-awaited titles such as Fable, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Alien: Isolation 2, as well as new hardware announcements related to the Nintendo Switch 2. The organizers have also significantly expanded the independent area and provided a global stage for independent development studios through 47 national pavilions.
In addition to its purely entertainment focus, the 2026 show also emphasizes its political and social importance. The program is complemented by a three-day speedrun stage run by Gamescom Cares charity initiative and Games Done Quick (GDQ). Despite the upheaval in the global industry, organizers remain confident that Gamescom 2026 will be a powerful source of inspiration for the future of gaming.
