As a Reddit user discovered under the nickname Good Horse-3169 Taking the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 equipped with a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card as an example, if the device only uses the integrated graphics card of the processor to run in power saving mode for a long time, the operating system can automatically delete the independent graphics card driver.
The reason is due to the operating characteristics of eco profiles – when they are enabled, the discrete graphics card’s power is completely disconnected from the PCIe bus to save battery, and the graphics card disappears from the Device Administrator list. Windows built-in services treat this as the video chip being physically removed from the socket. After the hardware loss timeout expires (usually 30 days, but only 15 days on some models), the pnpclean.dll mechanism deletes the device entry and then deletes the “unnecessary” driver package from the driver store. Therefore, when returning to performance mode, the video card is only detected as a basic Microsoft video adapter.
