Roblox is asking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the mother of a dead teen girl, saying the plaintiff waived her right to a trial when she was eight years old. The incident has drawn attention to the issue of forced arbitration in user agreements for digital platforms.

The lawsuit stems from the tragic death of 13-year-old Audrey Heine, who committed suicide. Her mother, Jaime Seitz, accused Roblox of creating a dangerous and violent environment where, despite parental supervision, minors could be exposed to toxic content and undermine communities. In response, lawyers for the platform said the case should be transferred to closed arbitration because eight-year-old Audrey checked a box in the user agreement agreeing to the service rules.

The case is part of a larger wave of criticism and lawsuits that Roblox has faced over issues around child safety, user content moderation and the effectiveness of parental controls.
