Chinese studio game science Unexpectedly presented the first large-scale gameplay trailer Black Myth: Zhong Kui – The second game in the Black Myth universe. The developer has yet to announce a release date, but has confirmed that the action RPG is in the works for PC and current-gen consoles.
if Black Myth: Wukong Based on the legend of Sun Wukong and the classic novel Journey to the West, this new game features another important figure in Chinese mythology. Zhong Kui is considered in folklore to be a powerful hunter of evil spirits and a Taoist god capable of commanding large armies of demons.
At the same time, “Game Science” emphasized that Zhong Kui will not be a direct continuation of Wukong. However, Monkey King’s story in the Black Myth universe has yet to be completed, so the connection between the two projects in the future is likely to be deeper than it seems now.
The new video, which is about 15 minutes long, first shows a mysterious hero – the swordsman in white. At first he traveled with an older companion, with whom he set sail on a raft. Soon, what happens becomes even more mysterious: the old man turns into several pieces of paper, and the hero chases them.

The developers then moved directly onto the gameplay. The protagonist mainly fights with a sword, dodges enemy attacks and uses flasks to restore health. However, the combat system is clearly not limited to standard technology.
One of the most interesting mechanics is the summoning of creatures. Heroes can summon allies to fight independently. Additionally, at one point, the characters team up with summoned creatures to take on a giant boss. Judging from the footage shown, these abilities could become an important part of the combat system.
The trailer also contains several story scenes and ends with the appearance of Zhong Kui himself, observing the city in the distance. As a result, Game Science has so far only peeled back the curtain slightly on the story, leaving many questions unanswered.
It’s worth noting that this demo is based on an earlier version of the project. The developers separately warn that the final game may differ significantly from the material shown. The film was recorded in 21:9 format and shows the unfinished version of “Black Myth: Zhong Kui”.

The game was first unveiled at the Gamescom 2025 opening ceremony, with a new trailer released almost a year later. Meanwhile, Game Science has yet to announce whether the project will appear at Gamescom 2026, with a release date still unknown.
The studio has previously said it does not plan to use generative artificial intelligence when creating game assets in the early stages of development. Among sources of inspiration, the team also named Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Currently, the developer has not revealed the specific release time of “Black Myth: Zhong Kui”. The only thing worth noting is that Game Science released the new material on August 20, a date the studio has used to release important news about its projects. Perhaps new details about the plot, mechanics, and release date will emerge in the near future.
