The developers of Bodycam have released the second update diary and talked about a massive overhaul of the sound system. The author promises not only to improve the audio, but to rebuild it from the ground up.
One of the main innovations is the organic reverb system, which instantly analyzes the environment and selects natural sounds for each room. Sound now travels differently through hallways, rooms, stairwells, windows and open spaces. Pay special attention to vertical positioning – it will be easier to know from the noise whether the enemy is upstairs or downstairs.
The weapon will also receive completely updated sounds. The developers recorded new sounds, redesigned the sound mix and weapon operation effects, and also enhanced the hearing suppression effect. Gunfights will feature more expressive sounds of bullet flight, shock waves, and ricochet, and environments should react more convincingly to what’s going on.
The rework will also affect less obvious details: steps, equipment, drones, radio-controlled cars and voice communications. The author believes that good sound should not only enhance the atmosphere, but also provide players with useful information during combat. It seems that after the Bodycam update, sometimes it’s more profitable to listen than to use your eyes to frantically search for enemies.
