At the end of last month, OpenAI reduced the prices of two of the three models in the GPT-5.6 series and expanded their usage restrictions, but if you believe Reutersand now the third one is getting similar changes – Sol, which is also aimed at software developers and is considered the most productive of the three. Subscription fees for Pro, Plus and Business plans have not changed. The price for accessing AI models through the API has been reduced; customers of ChatGPT Work and Codex will be able to use it under the new conditions. For every million incoming tokens, GPT-5.6 Sol users must now pay $4, and for outgoing tokens, the cost reaches $20 per million, depending on the standard use of short contexts. Previously, these prices reached $5 and $30 respectively.
By comparison, rival Anthropic offers access to its flagship artificial intelligence model Claude Fable 5 at $10 per million incoming tokens and $50 per million outgoing, while Claude Opus 5 has access rates of $5 per million incoming tokens and $25 per million outgoing. AI developers are forced to adjust prices due to growing competition and the need to demonstrate positive revenue dynamics in light of upcoming IPOs. Granted, if Anthropic is determined to enter the stock market this fall, OpenAI is prepared to wait until next year.
