A paradoxical situation has arisen in the US video card market, and the VideoCardz portal has drawn attention to it. It’s now cheaper to buy a ready-made gaming PC with the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 than to buy such a graphics card separately. For example, the HP Omen Max 45L with an RTX 5090 costs $4,709.99, while the most affordable RTX 5090 we could find retails for $4,829.99.

In addition to the GeForce RTX 5090, the HP Omen Max 45L configuration also includes an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor, 32 GB DDR5-6000 memory, and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe hard drive. Of course, buyers will also receive the motherboard, power supply, cooling system, case, and Windows 11. HP assembles these computers to order and has promised to begin shipping this configuration on August 31st.
According to the PCPartPicker aggregator, which collects offers from major US retailers, it’s almost impossible to buy the RTX 5090 on its own right now. As of press time, only the Asus ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 OC is available, priced at $4,829.99. When it goes on sale, this model will cost $2,799.99, which is already $800 more than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090’s suggested price of $1,999. Now it costs more than $2,000 more.
As a result, those looking to buy an RTX 5090 in the US may now find it more profitable to purchase an entire gaming PC with the card than to purchase the card itself separately. The difference is ridiculous: For the HP Omen Max 45L, buyers can pay about $120 less and get the rest of the computer.
