Can physical media advocacy communities make a difference? Large-scale protests have been launched against Sony’s decision to completely abandon PlayStation game discs from 2028. A week-long strike was initially planned, but the action was extended indefinitely – with organizers calling on players to ignore the platform, cancel subscriptions and not make purchases until the company reconsiders its stance.
Things got tense because just before the boycott began, Sony sent out an official reminder to users to update its TOS. The document makes it clear that games purchased digitally do not actually belong to players, but are simply transferred to them under a temporary personal license.
Apparently, anxious people will miss the release of GTA 6.
