Over the weekend, Amazon significantly increased the prices of its devices – as much as 60% in some cases. The explosive price increase affects smart TVs and Fire TV top boxes, Echo smart speakers, Kindle e-readers and Eero home network devices. The price of the small and relatively cheap smart speaker Echo Dot jumped 60% overnight, from $49.99 to $79.99.

“The consumer electronics industry has seen significant increases in the cost of memory and storage components. We have weathered this hit for as long as possible but have recently adjusted prices across all of our product lines.”,” Amazon explained the unpopular measure to the resource TechCrunch. The company also promises to launch occasional promotions throughout the year.
Amazon’s price increase on the device reinforces the fact that now is not a good time to buy a device. The global memory shortage triggered by the artificial intelligence boom has led to increased production costs for various devices. As a result, companies are increasingly forced to pass costs on to customers. Apple raised prices on nearly its entire product line and then launched a device subscription (rental) program.
Experts predict memory deficits will persist for the rest of this year and into next year. After that, in 2028, memory prices will reach their highest point and stabilize.
