At Gamescom, Blizzard Entertainment and CD Projekt Red announced a wide-ranging partnership. This collaboration brings the universe of The Witcher directly into the world of Diablo IV. In addition to a special crossover skin for Blizzard’s Dark RPG, the Polish RPG classic itself will also be moving to the new platform. Via official blogs, both development studios have provided insight into the background of the collaboration, which by their own words celebrates the decades-long connection between the two companies.
The announcement focuses on the debut of The Witcher Geralt of Rivia in the world of Sanctuary. A Geralt-inspired skin is being released for Diablo IV, which transfers the famous monster hunter’s look to your character.
You can get this special skin by pre-ordering the upcoming The Witcher 3 expansion, Song of the Past, directly from the Battle.net store. If you missed the pre-order period, cosmetics can still be unlocked in the game through regular channels after the expansion is officially released.
Meanwhile, Polish studio CD Projekt Red is significantly expanding its digital presence on the PC platform. On September 29, “The Witcher 3: Remastered” will officially appear on Blizzard Entertainment’s Battle.net launcher.
This means the award-winning role-playing game is now available natively through the Blizzard Store for the first time. Later expansion pack Songs of the Past will also be available to purchase directly from the PC Battle.net store from launch.
Officials from both companies made it clear that this crossover is just the beginning of a long-term partnership. In addition to the Witcher skin, further adjustments and connections between the two worlds are also being discussed.
Both studios hope to reveal details about Diablo IV’s specific content, set prices, and how Geralt’s skin will work at the upcoming BlizzCon. The event will take place on September 12-13 and will be broadcast live.
