EVE Online developers continue to work on a new version of the HUD and discuss the next phase of changes. The team’s main goal was to make the interface clearer and more convenient without losing the familiar controls that experienced pilots have built up the muscle memory for.
The new HUD will not be released to all players immediately. First, developers will initiate voluntary testing to collect feedback and refine controversial issues. The interface will then enter a mode that can be manually canceled, and after several stages of testing, the new version will completely replace the current version.
Before starting work, the team studied the behavior of different categories of players separately. Developers observe novices to see which interface elements give them the most difficulty, and then discuss the needs of experienced users. The team received additional feedback from CSM participants and Fanfest fans, holding separate testing sessions and sessions specifically focused on the interface.
In addition to making the HUD more readable and interactive, the developers also wanted to lay the foundation for new features. At the same time, the team emphasized that they will not rush into the final transition: they plan to gradually change such an important part of EVE Online, adjusting the interface at each stage based on community feedback.
Do you like the look of the new interface?
