Microsoft founder Bill Gates posted a detailed warning on his blog about the threats posed by the runaway development of artificial intelligence. He believes that the world is heading towards a dystopian situation because global leaders and experts still do not have a clear plan of action in the event of a large-scale crisis.
Gates stressed that despite the benefits of artificial intelligence in medicine and education, the transition to the new era will be one of the most tumultuous periods in human history. He cited the main risks as an avalanche of job losses due to job automation, ultra-fast cyberattacks by hackers exploiting neural networks, and the harmful effects of virtual connections on children’s psychology and development.
Since geopolitical incentives are unlikely to stop the technological race, Gates recommends introducing three safeguards: establishing state-controlled institutions, reserving jobs exclusively for humans, and taxing robots and AI tokens to fund social protection.
