A huge world, a relationship system, a criminal profile and choices in the plot – the main features in the preview of Grand Theft Auto VI

Following the full reveal of Grand Theft Auto VI’s full gameplay, numerous gaming publications have released their own previews based on several hours of gameplay. We have studied this material and compiled for you a short summary containing all the most interesting news about future new products.

Technical details and scale

  • The entire big movie was shot entirely on a regular PlayStation 5.
  • When released on consoles – just 30 frames per second. No 60fps mode has been confirmed yet.
  • There are no microtransactions and no artificial intelligence is generated.
  • Producer Rob Nelson completed the main story, as well as some story-impacting side objectives, in about 80 hours.
  • The map is approximately twice the size of GTA 5. Sin City is twice the size of Los Santos. Sin City and its suburbs are approximately 11 times larger than Los Santos and its surrounding areas.
  • The Rockstar team has more than doubled in size since Red Dead Redemption 2. There is a separate office in Los Angeles that focuses almost entirely on passers-by. More than 50 real street artists participated in the graffiti.

Main characters and relationship system

  • Jason Duvall (ex-military) and Lucia Caminos (fresh out of prison). Lucia is the first full-fledged female protagonist in the series.
  • You can switch between them freely in the open world, but switching is disabled at certain plot points. You can call your partner via phone or text, ride together, change seats, and film from the passenger seat.
  • The relationship system is completely optional. Reinforce by spending time together: walking, shopping, beauty salon, gym, robbery, holding hands, opening doors.
  • Even if their relationship is weak, the heroes are still partners in crime and cover for each other. Proximity affects story progression but provides few direct gameplay benefits.
  • At the beginning of the story, they want a romantic relationship, but quests alone may not be enough – they need to spend time together in the open world.
  • Messages (“Good night,” “Close the door,” etc.) can also affect relationships.

peace and exploration

  • The location is Leonidas (Florida) and the center is Sin City (based on Miami).
  • The world is noticeably denser and more alive than in previous installments. Passersby speak and react to appearance, weapons, behavior, surveillance and eavesdropping.
  • Exploration is more encouraged than ever. Many events and activities are not marked on the map.
  • Examples of activities: gym, mini golf, billiards, rowing, zoo (study of animals), diving, paragliding, feeding and petting animals, random activities.
  • The characters themselves can provide activities or “jobs” along the way.
  • The shelter is closer to the camp in Red Dead Redemption 2. You can live in it together, change your hairstyle (new hairstyles are only available in the salon), store clothes and weapons in the trunk of your private car. Others may show up at some houses.

Crime Profile and Search System

  • Crime Files is a new system and the spiritual successor to Red Dead Redemptio 2’s honor system. There are no classic “good” and “bad” paths.
    • Necessary violence (robbery, self-defense, conspiracy) has little impact.
    • Excessive cruelty, unnecessary killing, escalation – lowering visibility.
    • Small “kind” acts (taking out the trash, feeding animals) increase.
    • At very low levels, the logo may crack, after which it is no longer possible to restore the outline until the end of the channel.
    • Influence the world’s reactions and historical developments. There is no right way to play.
  • The wanted system is back to six stars.
    • The police received an accurate description: appearance, clothing, car, whether the two of you were together.
    • A graphic appears below the star to show what police know.
    • To reduce search rates, you can completely change your clothes, hairstyle, car, move separately, and walk into alleys. Masks help conceal one’s appearance during a crime.
    • There are no police officers shown on the minimap. There are crime hot spots and wider search areas.
    • In a city with three stars or above, walking tends to be more profitable (narrow streets, heavy traffic).
    • Many cars (especially police cars) have beacons that make escape very difficult.
    • When one character is captured, the second character can continue to escape.

Transport, theft and the economy

  • Cars are divided by difficulty.
    • Old ones can be opened with a master key or broken glass.
    • Expensive and modern tools require key cloners and other tools (unlocked as the story progresses).
    • Any car with a driver can be stolen in the classic way.
  • An app on the phone scans the car: sales price, registration fees, presence of alarms and beacons, what tools are needed.
  • Beacons let you drive faster. Providing fuel, including electric vehicle charging.
  • Driving is harder and more realistic (especially with rear-wheel drive), but the top speed is higher than in GTA 5.
  • Stolen items are sold through buyers, with cars and valuables sold separately. A damaged car is worth less.
  • There are three types of money: a bank account (safe), cash (can be lost), and a bag of loot (must be given to the buyer). You can’t just deposit cash into your account over the phone – only through an ATM.
  • Money is more important than ever: sometimes you need to accumulate a certain amount to continue the story.

Passers-by, conversation, interaction

  • The interactive system is developed from “Red Dead Redemption 2”. After removing the weapon, you can talk, provoke, calm down, and say hello.
  • Passers-by who notice the eavesdropping and surveillance may attack themselves, and many are armed.
  • There is a wide variety of body shapes, heights and appearances. The animation will automatically adjust to the size of the character.
  • The conversation is long and depends on the circumstances (time of day, weather, your behavior, wearing a mask or not).
  • There are social networks, but the protagonists only read other people’s content – they don’t post it themselves, so as not to leave traces.
  • You can hear complete conversations of passers-by and intervene.

feature

  • Three main scales: Health, Endurance and Focus (time slows down + highlights weaknesses of people and cars – wheels, engines, tanks, etc.).
  • Food, fitness, and exercise can affect weight, muscle mass, and provide temporary or permanent rewards. Everything is completely optional.
  • At a gym, you can buy a membership, drink protein before training, exercise, and get a boost.
  • Appearances change based on lifestyle (just like in San Andreas, but deeper).

Plot, Satire, and Overall Tone

  • Episodes are available with different levels of importance. Because of this, it’s worth replaying the game, as the story and the characters’ relationships may develop in different ways depending on your decisions.
  • Small decisions (such as how you interact with people, how violent you are in the world, how close Jason and Lucia are) gradually add up and ultimately affect how the story unfolds. Major elections immediately and obviously changed the course of events.
  • The story and open world are closely connected. Actions in the world affect the characters and the story.
  • Be careful with sarcasm. The developers avoided overly topical political topics, memes, and modern slang so that the game wouldn’t become outdated in a few years.
  • For players, the world becomes less “omnipotent”. Passersby can fight back, police are smarter, and carjacking requires preparation. The goal is to make the player feel like a real criminal rather than a superhero.

Other details

  • The team spent several years traveling to Florida to talk to ex-offenders, police officers, club promoters and gun dealers.
  • There is a huge focus on fashion, music and cultural diversity.
  • Brands, stores and advertising are designed to look like a living ecosystem.
  • Shops and salons feature unique items only found in certain locations.
  • You can non-lethally incapacitate an enemy (shoot them in the arm, leg, or knock down the weapon).
  • The phone is a complete object in the world. There are applications for banking, hailing taxis, private cars, messaging, fitness, etc.
  • No more auto-aim – just aim assist. The game features cinematic slow-motion kills like those in Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA 6 will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Pre-download will be available on November 12th.
