Virginia-based startup Operation Bluebird is trying to revive the now-abandoned Twitter name and logo of Elon Musk’s social network X, announcing the launch of the new social network on Twitter.now.

The project became known in December: Stephen Coates, the founder of startup Operation Bluebird, who served as general counsel at the original Twitter before the Elon Musk era, said that when the billionaire acquired the social network in 2022 and quickly renamed it Platform X, he gave up the platform’s intellectual property and the identity that essentially came with it. Musk’s decision prompted Operation Bluebird to apply to trademark Twitter.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s X Corporation sued Operation Bluebird and asked a federal judge in Delaware to issue a preliminary injunction blocking the rollout of the new Twitter. At a hearing in April 2026, District Court Judge Colm Connolly issued a preliminary ruling in which he stated that For Stephen Coates, this decision was a wake-up call.
The new website emphasizes that it is not affiliated with Elon Musk’s company. The resource is similar to old Twitter in many ways – the platform has replies and retweets. A key feature is the automated fact checker Vera, powered by Google Gemini AI, which tracks every tweet posted. Mr. Coates tested the new feature by posting some fake news. Experts have no clear opinion on the outcome of the case, but they think there is a certain degree of arrogance in the idea of Twitter.now project, and now that the new project has been launched, the management of Social Network X will take decisive action.
