According to “Vedomosti”, starting from September 1, iOS smartphone users face an unexpected obstacle: they will not be able to use digital ruble wallets through the Bank of Russia app.
While the systemically important bank is fully prepared to launch a new form of national currency and plans to roll out a convenient button on the app homepage, US Apple has blocked all updates.
The main reason is the current sanctions on domestic credit institutions – the App Store algorithm immediately identifies the update’s connection to the Russian state financial system and refuses to publish it.
Additional complexity is created by strict requirements from the central bank, which requires that all software solutions must be certified according to protection levels. Therefore, banks are urgently looking for solutions, while large retail chains will have to accept digital rubles from September 1 from those who still have access.
