Sony has made a strategic decision to completely abandon publishing PlayStation story-exclusive titles on PC and Steam. The reason for this conclusion is a change in the company’s advertising campaigns: major blockbusters (including Marvel’s Wolverine, astronomy robot and Ghost of Yotei) has a non-alternative “PS5 only” section that didn’t exist before.
Analysts and industry insiders say the reason for the move is not only the mediocre quality of some ported games at launch, but also because the strategy of porting games to PC weakened sales of the console itself – players would rather simply wait for the PC version.
In the meantime, Sony’s version of the multiplayer game could still be released on PC to support a live player base, and the future fate of exclusive games remains up in the air amid rumors of an imminent PS6 release. However, the days of simultaneous or delayed single releases on Steam appear to be over.
