Will Goblin Puchkov, Stas and Russia Today be banned from YouTube? The US FTC has launched a service ban investigation

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an investigation into YouTube’s management over its practices of blocking accounts and deleting user content. The agency intends to examine whether the platform’s rules mislead users about their rights when registering, and to evaluate the fairness of moderation mechanisms and shadow bans.

The review was prompted by longstanding controversies surrounding the removal of material on political topics and the pandemic, as well as changes in the updated FTC’s approach to consumer protection laws.

While U.S. jurisprudence has traditionally protected platforms’ editorial censorship rights, the new investigation could set a dangerous precedent for the entire social media market.
