Gurman said there won’t be any major design changes to the Series 12 or Ultra 4 compared to the current Series 11 and Ultra 3 models. However, he expects the company to resume production of ceramic case versions of the Apple Watch Series 12. According to Gurman, Apple has tested a model with a white and dark gray ceramic case, similar to the model proposed for the Apple Watch Series 3 in 2017.
According to rumors, the Series 12 smartwatch will come with a strap with built-in health sensors, but Gurman has not commented on this. Instead, he said the new model will feature faster performance and improvements in health and activity tracking. The Series 11 and Ultra 3 smartwatches use the same S10 chip as their predecessors, the Series 10 and Ultra 2, so the S11 chip or a newer version in the new models will give Apple Watch its first performance boost in several years.
According to reporters, Apple is now testing a feature that allows the heart rate sensor on the Apple Watch to continuously collect data throughout the day. He also said the company plans to expand the number of health-related metrics displayed in health and fitness apps, “similar to the increasingly popular apps Whoop and Oura.”
Gurman noted that the Apple Watch SE 4 is not expected to be released this year. He also said that the company is working on a major design update for the Apple Watch, but the results are unlikely to be available for one to two years. Previously, reporters said that Apple is continuing to develop the function of measuring blood sugar levels and aims to release the function in 2030.
