Developers at Rockstar have accepted multiple interviews in recent days and revealed details of “Grand Theft Auto 6” to reporters in an exclusive preview. Studio representatives spoke specifically about which solutions from Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5 they carried over to Grand Theft Auto 6.
According to the developers, when making Grand Theft Auto VI, they wanted to retain the strengths that players loved about the first two installments while correcting the shortcomings. This is especially evident in automotive control systems. Development Manager Rob Nelson said TGGthe team strives to retain the best elements of GTA 4’s physics, but the developers do not intend to completely replicate this part of the system.
Nelson said the controls in GTA 6 should retain the weight and physical feel of the vehicles in GTA 4, but at the same time remain easy to operate and comfortable, just like in GTA 5. The new system was created from the ground up, with a greater focus on tires, suspension, steering and the vehicle’s behavior on different types of road surfaces. So Rockstar tried to combine the more realistic feel of the cars in Part IV with the convenience of driving in Part V.
In an interview with Dazed, Nelson also noted that Rockstar regularly returns to previous projects and critically evaluates decisions made therein. If a system doesn’t do what the team wants, they try to change it, taking into account available technology and accumulated experience. This principle extends not only to cars in the new section. In particular, GTA 6 retains the freedom of action characteristic of GTA 5 but makes the world around us more reactive. As a result, many familiar mechanics and gameplay elements are changing significantly. For example, openly carrying weapons can attract the attention of NPCs, and the protagonist’s actions will be subject to more consequences.
GTA VI will be released on November 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X | S and Playstation 5.
