The authors of the Xbox Game Protection Resource, a new project where you can vote in support of the backward compatibility initiative, have authored several open letters to publishers and licensees in recent weeks. They clearly show which projects players would like to see “return” on Xbox. Such letters have previously been written to Disney, Hasbro and Warner Bros. Games, and now a public appeal has been made to Sega.
Since Xbox game saves launched this year, users have cast 63,588 votes for 96 SEGA games. A total of 23,615 players voted for the company’s project. A separate section has been created on the portal with information about SEGA projects, and here you can clearly see the audience’s interest in the return of classic games to modern Xbox. Key points of statistics in this section:
- A game based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series received 36,097 votes – approximately 57% of the total demand for SEGA projects.
- The rest of Sega’s games received another 20,710 votes. This category includes Jet Set Radio Future, OutRun, Shenmue II, Phantasy Star, Golden Ax, Streets of Rage, Alpha Protocol, and more.
- Another 6,781 votes came from SEGA-licensed games. This group includes projects from Marvel, Aliens, Warhammer, and other licensed games.
- In total, about a quarter of Xbox Game Reserve users voted for at least one SEGA game.
Most popular SEGA games:
- What players are most looking forward to is the return of “Sonic Heroes”, which received 9,139 votes.
- In second place is Sonic the Hedgehog with 7,640 votes.
- Jet Set Radio Future came in third with 7,515 votes.
- Next up are Shadow the Hedgehog – 5,098 votes, Sonic Man of Steel – 4,825 votes, Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing – 3,472 votes, Sonic Super Collection Plus – 2,329 votes, Sonic Hitchhiker – 1,979 votes, Sonic and Ultimate Protocol votes.
That being said, Jet Set Radio Future is Sega’s most popular non-Sonic game. Let’s remember that the original Xbox project never officially released on PC, modern consoles, or other platforms after launch. It remains “locked” on the original Xbox.
Another noteworthy project on the list is Alpha Protocol. This RPG game from Obsidian Entertainment was published by SEGA in 2010 and received 1,362 votes. Writers at Xbox Game Preservation noted that this was the most popular game in the entire voting pool and was not part of any series.
Note that Sega has partnered with Microsoft as part of its backwards compatibility program, but a large portion of the company’s popular classic games have yet to be added to it.
