Funcom creative director Joel Bylos said at Gamescom 2026 that the developers of MMORPG Dune: Awakening face the problem of dividing the community into two incompatible camps as they try to please all players at the same time.
Statistics show that 80% of viewers only prefer PvE mode, and fans who like to play against real people will feel comfortable at the expense of other users. To remedy the situation, the studio has shifted its focus to peaceful content and is preparing to release a single-player mode alongside the console version of the game next month.
However, the team does not intend to completely abandon the competitive direction, and plans to start developing a structured mode after the console is released. Large-scale battles between factions based on well-thought-out gameplay mechanics are considered a promising direction.
