On the way to re-releasing Soul of the Shadows, development studio Sucker Punch and Sony have provided the first concrete details about the highlights of the upcoming full version of the game. Much of the focus was the reveal of Most Wanted – a standalone single-player mode with unique roguelike mechanics. The expansion not only gives you a first look at the new mode, but also introduces a true fan favorite: as you progress through the bounty hunt, you will gradually unlock more warriors, including Jin Sakai, the legendary protagonist of the previous game Ghost of Tsushima. The paid mode will be released as part of the full version and as an upgrade option on October 1, 2026.
The structure of Most Wanted is fundamentally different from the atmospheric open-world exploration of the main game. In solo runs, you hunt down notorious targets and face increasingly tough enemies. Each successful kill rewards you with valuable modifiers, improvements, and loot to enhance your character for the rest of the game.
The further you progress, the more playable characters you unlock. Each of these characters specializes in a specific primary weapon from Atsu’s arsenal, bringing their own playful energy to arena combat. The highlight is the return of Jin Sakai, with whom you can ride the waves in the usual “Spirit of Tsushima” style.
The game’s structure is strongly reminiscent of established roguelike subgenres, such as the “Point of No Return” mode in The Last of Us Part II: Remastered. In addition to the sheer frenzy of combat, the update also provides narrative material for fans of the lore: parallel to Most Wanted, the story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara will be released on October 1, 2026. This takes you into Atsumu’s past before the events of the main story, and highlights her involvement in the historic Battle of Sekigahara in 1600.
The content pack is available as an upgrade for owners of the original version of Ghost of Yōtei. In addition, the developer is also providing a free comfort update on the day of release, which includes the “Beauty of Sheep’s Hoof” mode and the transmogrification function of armor value.
