Lenovo launched a new laptop concept with an OLED display at IFA 2026 that can be expanded horizontally. ThinkBook Project Swan is a device for the business field, equipped with a screen that can be expanded from 14 inches to 17 inches.

Sliding screens in laptops are nothing new for Lenovo. The company has previously showcased multiple concepts and even launched a device in the category last year. However, compared to the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which has an unusually wide portrait screen, the Project Swan looks a little more restrained.

At first glance, the Project Swan looks like a fairly typical 14-inch laptop, with a much thicker top lid than a typical laptop. Its main feature is that the display can be turned into a 17-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. This is a more traditional, more compact expandable-screen option than the gaming laptop concept Lenovo showed off at CES, which could expand from 16 inches to 24 inches.

The Project Swan case is 17.9 mm thick and weighs 1.6 kg. Those numbers are a bit higher than today’s 14-inch laptops, but for a device with a 17-inch display, they look good. It’s worth noting that the new product currently looks more like an upcoming device than an early prototype.

However, the fairly thick lid limits the angle at which it can be opened. Additionally, it’s significantly heavier than a traditional laptop, so we can only hope Lenovo uses a hinge mechanism that’s sturdy and reliable enough.

Like Lenovo’s other Project AeroBlade prototypes, the Project Swan laptop is equipped with Intel Lunar Lake processors. If this model becomes available, we can expect newer Intel chips to be present in it. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 cost $3,500 when it launched last year, and that was before a shortage of memory chips caused parts costs to skyrocket. Lenovo’s latest concept seems to aim to find a balance between form factor, reliability and price. Under current conditions, achieving such a balance will be very difficult.
