The biggest surprise of 2020 might be a full-length sequel. As developer Tripwire Interactive and co-developer Demiurge Studios revealed in the current State of Play build, the so-called “ShaRkPG” Maneater 2 is officially in development. In the sequel, you once again take on the role of the powerful Bull Shark, who must eat and evolve to the top of the food chain. The new environment takes you directly to the Kingdom of Neptune, a luxurious mega-theme park on a private island that blends the grandiose design of ancient Rome with hedonistic travelers. The gory spectacle is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

Along with the setting changes, the developers promise to significantly expand the game’s possibilities. The Kingdom of Neptune offers you not only a vast open ocean world area, but above all a vast network of artificial pools, giant water slides and state-of-the-art aquariums.

Careless park visitors and security guards are your main source of food to collect experience points and unlock new mutations and special abilities.

In keeping with the strange documentary vibe of the first film, voice actor Chris Parnell returns in his cult role as cynical narrator Tripp Westhaven, commenting on your bloody assault in his usual dry manner.

Technically, Maneater 2 represents a huge generational leap for the series, as the game is being developed from the ground up for Unreal Engine 5. The new graphics engine is designed to deliver impressive underwater light refraction, dynamic physics when destroying park attractions, and more complex AI behavior patterns for sea creatures and escapees. The studio also promises improvements to the combat system, making attacks on rivals like orcas or giant crocodiles more tactical.

“Maneater 2” is scheduled to be released in 2027. Interested players can now add the game to their wishlists on the PlayStation Store and other digital distribution platforms.
