After only setting a rough release window of February 2027 for promising Metro 2039, developer studio 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver have now set a firm date. The next chapter in the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter saga will officially launch on February 4, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. In addition to the release date, the manufacturer also announced solid technical details for console gamers: on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series
By announcing a specific release date, the developer and publisher are solidifying their ambitious plans for the survival adventure. What is currently known is that the sequel to Metro Exodus is scheduled to be launched in the second month of 2027.
The fact that the studio has set an exact date so early now suggests that work on the in-house 4A Engine is well underway. The technology of the Ukrainian development team, already considered the industry’s graphics flagship among its predecessors, will be seamlessly continued in the fourth core plot.
The promise of a 60 FPS mode in particular is likely to be met with enthusiasm by the console community. The combination of high frame rates, 4K scaling, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing in current-gen consoles often only comes with a compromise in refresh rate. With targeted optimizations for PS5 Pro and established flagship consoles from Sony and Microsoft, the dark crawling adventure in the Moscow subway shafts should not disappoint from a technical perspective.
In terms of content, “Metro 2039” will take you back to a devastated and nuclear-contaminated Moscow. This time the focus of the plot is on a new voice protagonist called “The Stranger” who is plagued by severe nightmares and has to face the dangers of an underground faction. The developers promise a significant return to the tight, claustrophobic tunnels of the first series offshoot, coupled with the series’ proven survival and stealth mechanics.
