Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst is based on Lara Croft from Survivor Series.
It’s no secret that Tomb Raider Catalyst is the upcoming new installment in the long-running mainline series, and now Crystal Dynamics has made a more concrete announcement about where and how the new game should be placed. So the new game relies on Lara Croft’s world, which you know from the reboot trilogy, known as Survivor Series.
This version of Lara Croft will reportedly remain the main variant used in other games going forward. This also applies to the remaster of the first game, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which otherwise should have remained the original title at the time.
The relevant information comes from a Q&A session with Raul Siqueira, game director at Gamescom Cologne. In both cases, it’s the world of Lara Croft, which was first introduced in this form when the series was rebooted in 2013 – although the remake, Legacy of Atlantis, is actually based on a title released in 1996.
“Of course, we develop the game together. However, it is very important for us to emphasize that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a completely independent project, and we take fidelity to the original game very seriously. As for the details of Lara Croft’s future path, we want to respectfully take into account the games that have come before and those that will follow.”
Further: “The Lara Croft you see here is the Lara Croft from the Survivor era. [Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider und Shadow of the Tomb Raider, die Laras Ursprungsgeschichte erzählen]she will be the same Laura in our future projects. “
The remake of “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis” is planned to be released in 2027, and the new game “Tomb Raider: Catalyst” is currently planned to be released in 2028.
