Valve has released the results of its monthly Steam user hardware and software survey for August 2026. Data remained stable compared to last month, but Windows 11 continued its strong growth, reaching 70.97% of all systems surveyed, the report said. newwin.

Windows 10’s share dropped to 22.90%, and if we consider all devices running Windows, operating system version 11 already accounts for 75.53%. Overall, Windows remains absolutely dominant with a score of 93.95%. Linux’s share dropped slightly to 3.90%, with SteamOS Holo still the most popular distribution, although CachyOS also retained a large portion of its audience. The macOS operating system dropped to 2.14%.
As for the video memory part, the 16 GB VRAM configuration became the most common configuration, accounting for 25.90%, slightly ahead of the 8 GB option (25.32%). Competition for graphics card ratings is fierce. The leader is the GeForce RTX 3060 with 3.92%, followed by the mobile RTX 4060 (3.84%). The new GeForce RTX 5070 almost caught up with the leader, settling at 3.77%. This suggests that sales of new GPUs remain strong despite the current component shortage.
In the processor market, AMD continues to narrow the gap with Intel. Intel chips have a market share of 54.47% in Windows systems, while AMD has grown to 45.52%. Valve’s survey also shows that the gap between manufacturers is narrowing from the beginning of the year, but Intel’s lead still exists.
