Streaming service Prime Video has decided not to renew the “Black Spider” series starring Nicolas Cage for a second season. The project is the first film adaptation of a Sony comic and is part of a massive deal with Amazon-MGM Studios, but the story will not continue.
The show received high praise from critics and audiences and was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards, becoming the platform’s leading project in 2026. The show generated 2.6 billion minutes of viewing time in the U.S. in its first six weeks, according to Nielsen.
However, unlike other versions of the service, the project cannot stay in popular view for long. The sheer cost of a large-scale production heightened management’s misgivings, and the producers shot both color and black-and-white versions.
As part of the deal, representatives from Sony and Amazon will continue to collaborate and are developing new projects, one of which will be ordered soon. The first season of Black Spider has wrapped up its major storylines, so viewers won’t experience an abrupt end to the story.
