Top Go master Shin Jin Seo achieved a historic achievement by defeating cutting-edge artificial intelligence platform KataGo 2:1 in the official series of games. This is the first time since the famous AlphaGo game that someone has defeated such a powerful artificial intelligence in the game of Go.
The game is played in a traditional handicap format, pitting two stones between man and machine. After losing in the first game, the 26-year-old turned the tide and won the next two games, including the three-hour final.
After the victory, Shin Jin Seo noted that his main takeaway was the refusal to simply copy computer action, but rather to build the game in his own unique style. He said this success proves that humans are still capable of successfully competing with artificial intelligence at the highest level.
