Saber Interactive creative director Tim Willits shared his thoughts on current issues in the gaming industry in a recent interview. In his view, large companies’ overreliance on mega-projects with highly specialized teams often leads to serious crises and layoffs.
Willetts pointed out that the secret to Saber’s stability lies in risk diversification and flexible resource allocation. The studio alternates between big blockbusters like “Starfighter 2” and “Jurassic Park: Survival” along with remakes and smaller games. This approach allows you to avoid team isolation and employee stagnation.
As an example, he cited the popular game SnowRunner, which grew out of an experimental project by its developers. At the same time, Willetts emphasized that he doesn’t want to turn Saber into something like Rockstar, because developing a game for five or six years can have a negative impact on the creative atmosphere and morale of employees.
