Huawei launches high-performance mobile processor Kirin 9050 Pro. The chip is specifically used in the company’s new tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT 2.

Kirin 9050 Pro uses LinxiCore CPU and supports multi-threading. Its configuration includes a main core and two performance cores for intensive workloads, four energy-efficient cores for multitasking, and two smaller cores for day-to-day tasks.
According to the company, the processor’s single-thread performance is 24% faster than its predecessor, and multi-thread performance is 52% faster. Kirin 9050 Pro downloads files 50% faster than Kirin 9030 Pro.
The processor is also equipped with a new Maleoon graphics accelerator that supports real-time ray tracing with an efficiency of up to 50 MRPS (millions of rays per second). The new GPU’s overall rendering performance is 142% higher than its predecessor. These improvements are achieved through a hardware ray tracing acceleration unit and a doubling of the GPU cache size.
The new neural processing unit (NPU) based on the Da Vinci architecture in Kirin 9050 Pro supports the industry’s first on-device multi-modal MOE LLM deployment. It provides up to 30 billion common parameters and 2 billion active parameters. This chip runs a large-scale Pangu language model (30B-A2B) on the device and supports the intelligent file management function of the entire system.
The Kirin 9050 Pro also uses a Balong modem. The latter not only improves terrestrial access to 5G networks, but also increases the likelihood of successful satellite paging by 42%. According to the company, connection speeds via Chinese satellites Tiantong and Beidou will increase by up to 40%.
Kirin 9050 Pro has a dual-chip security system confirmed by post-quantum cryptographic authentication and EAL5+ CCRP security certificates. This guarantees maximum protection of access to user data and online content.
Due to the rapid cooling system, the processor generates almost no heat under high load, and the performance is stable in the same game. The company has not revealed what process the Kirin 9050 Pro is produced using. Huawei Center pointed out that compared to Kirin 9030 Pro, the average performance is improved by 42%, which is comparable to TSMC’s 3nm process. Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is the first smartphone to be equipped with the new Kirin 9050 Pro processor. The next device based on the new processor will be the Mate 90 series of smartphones.
