Onimusha’s return couldn’t be better for Capcom! The first major sales sign came on the day of publication.
Capcom recently relaunched the Onimusha series after years of abstinence, and it paid off for the company on launch day. Kendo has an absolutely perfect start.
“Onimusha: Kendo” was released on September 4, 2026. It exceeded the one million mark on the day of release and sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. The developer and publisher themselves announced this in a press release on Monday.
The historical action series hasn’t released a game in 20 years, but player interest in the series still seems to be high. This year’s gaming year continues to be a bumper year for Capcom, with “Resident Evil Requiem” selling over 8 million copies and “Pragmata” selling 2.5 million copies, which is an outstanding performance. All of Capcom’s games so far have received decent reviews, enough to earn high Metacritic scores.
It remains to be seen whether Capcom will continue its pursuit of success in October, when Dragon’s Dogma 2: Darkness Rises will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the action RPG implementation.
