Volkswagen’s Audi brand last year abandoned a previously set goal of switching entirely to electric traction in the shortest possible time, but continued the rational electrification of its model range. Audi’s most economical electric car is the new small hatchback A2 e-tron, which consumes less than 13 kWh per 100 kilometers.

From an ideological point of view, the new A2 is the successor to the diesel version, which has been on the market for more than 25 years and has a fuel consumption of less than 3 liters per 100 kilometers, which is unique for a four-door body. Although the typical power consumption of an electric car of 12.9 kWh per 100 kilometers cannot be called a record low (according to the WLTP cycle), it is already very good for a car of this size. At least no other Audi electric car offers this level of efficiency.

This is largely due to good aerodynamics, which determine the sloping profile of the roof, ensuring that the drag coefficient does not exceed 0.24. To do this, the door handles had to be recessed and the bottom of the electric vehicle had to be covered with a solid shell of aerodynamic flaps. The machine can be equipped with a power battery with a capacity of 52.61 or 84 kWh. The latter apparently offers a range of 646 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, which is more reliable from a practical perspective than the CLTC adopted by China. The A2 e-tron is available with 125, 140, 170 or 240 kW, with figures that are easier to understand for the driver ranging from 170 to 326 hp. Drive is provided to the rear wheels, which is not unusual in modern electric cars from a layout perspective. Audi has placed a heavy bet on this car in terms of sales volume and brand image influence.
The machine is capable of delivering charge back to the grid and supplying power to external electricity consumers. Supports fast charging stations up to 183 kW. They allow you to charge the highest capacity battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes. The version with a primary battery with a capacity of 52 kWh is able to receive no more than 100 kW from the charging network, but even in this case the charging time does not exceed 14 minutes. For a battery with an average capacity of 61 kWh, everything is more complicated, since charging with a comparable power of 105 kW takes up to 25 minutes.

The AudiA2 e-tron is equipped with most popular active driving assistance systems, including automatic parking and adaptive cruise control, which can avoid obstacles without human intervention. The car has a body length of 4.32 meters and a wheelbase of 2.77 meters, which not only increases the space for passengers in the car, but also makes the front overhang quite short. The panoramic roof with a total area of 1.6 m² is an option at extra cost.
The interior of the new car adopts a traditional simple style, but the most important functions are controlled by physical buttons on the steering wheel and ventral console, lacking a traditional central tunnel. The common body combines a digital instrument panel in the form of an 11.9-inch display and a central 12.8-inch diagonal screen equipped with a touch interface.

The interior is equipped with magnetic mounts for the Fidlock system, allowing you to place a variety of accessories, such as mobile device holders or object containers. Orders for the Audi A2 e-tron in Europe will begin the day after tomorrow, with prices starting at 38,000 euros for the 170-horsepower version. Equipped with 52 kWh battery. The older version with a battery capacity of 84 kWh will cost at least 48,900 euros, while the most powerful A2 e-tron version is estimated to cost at least 51,200 euros.
