The film already has a final title and will not involve a video game-specific story. Nintendo confirmed this during a Direct meeting today.
It’s been known for some time that The Legend of Zelda would also make the jump to the big screen with a live-action adaptation. The game will be released in theaters from April 30, 2027, and today Nintendo announced more details at a Direct conference commemorating the series’ 40th anniversary.
After initially being announced in November 2023, the film adaptation has now been given the final title for its theatrical release: The Legend of Zelda. As a result, Nintendo completely forgoes any kind of subtitles for the film adaptations and keeps the titles as simple as possible.
Someone at the Direct meeting said that fans of the series should understand why they decided on this title instead of subtitles when they actually see the film. It was also announced there that the film will also have a standalone plot; this will not be tied to a specific storyline from the video game. The story of the film itself will of course be inspired by plots, ideas and concepts from the past 40 years of the series.
More details about the film will be announced at a later date. With the name, independent plot, launch date of April 30, 2020, and subsequent broadcast on Netflix, at least a lot of relevant information is already known. Directed by Weiss Ball (“Maze Runner,” “War for the Planet of the Apes”), Link is played by Jamie Evan Ainsworth and Princess Zelda is played by Bob Lagasan.
