Apple has announced that it will extend the free satellite security feature for iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 owners for another year. The extension applies to devices launched in countries that support Apple satellite functionality before midnight PT on September 9. Apple announced the news in a press release dedicated to the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models.

According to MacRumors, this is at least the third time that Apple has provided satellite functionality for free to iPhone 14 users. iPhone 14 users have a two-year trial period since the device was released in November 2022. Apple delayed the trial end date to 2025 and did it again this year. The free trial period for iPhone 15 users, who were scheduled to end this year, has also been extended, and iPhone 16 users have received the same extension for the first time.
Apple’s satellite capabilities include SOS, emergency messaging via satellite, Find My iPhone and roadside assistance. Availability of these tools varies by country. These features work through Apple’s satellite partner Globalstar, allowing you to contact emergency services, share your location, or send messages when you don’t have a cellular signal or Wi-Fi.
Apple has not said whether it will charge for these features after the free use ends. Currently, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 owners who launched their devices before today can enjoy these features for free for another year.
