Apple says the Duo has innovative safety features that prevent wear and tear issues common on foldable models. Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technology, said this also applies to the hinge mechanism.

“During the manufacturing process, we use AI algorithms to precisely match the housing to each specific joint to ensure perfect alignment. A confocal laser gradually scans the topology of each individual component, while 3D printing allows you to apply up to 25 microlayers of a special photopolymer to eliminate residual ripples.”Sruji said at an Apple conference on Wednesday.

Srugi also pointed out that Apple will apply it to the screen of folding smartphones “A special nano-texture coating that significantly reduces glare and reflections”and also uses multi-layer lamination to increase the durability of the device. It’s unclear whether this will be enough to keep the Duo monitors looking their best long-term.
