Asus has received “conditional approval” to supply its routers in the US

This year, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a general ban on the import of all new foreign-made routers into the country. As a goodwill gesture, it started issuing “conditional approvals” to companies that met all its requirements and allayed authorities’ concerns. The latest to receive such authorization is Asus.

The following series of ASUS networking devices are allowed to be imported into the United States: RT, ROG GT, ROG Strix GS, TUF Gaming, ExpertWiFi, ZenWiFi Mesh and 5G MiFi, as well as wireless repeaters and access points. In short, ASUS’s entire range of wireless devices are approved for sale in the United States; the license is valid until March 6, 2028 – 18 months from the date of issuance. “We believe each conditional approval constitutes a ‘concrete conclusion’ [Министерства обороны] These devices do not pose a threat to U.S. national security.”the FCC said.

This is an important decision for Asus, a Taiwanese company with a wide range of networking gear and some of the best wireless routers on the market. In the coming year, manufacturers plan to launch a new generation of devices that support the Wi-Fi 8 standard, which is expected to significantly improve the reliability of wireless communications. It is important for Asus to be at the forefront of the transition from Wi-Fi 7 to Wi-Fi 8.

Previously, Netgear and Amazon Eero/Leo received conditional approval from the FCC. The largest player in the U.S. wireless router market is TP-Link, but the company has not yet received a license from the department — and U.S. authorities remain skeptical of the veracity of its claims about its lack of ties to the Chinese government and armed forces. TP-Link has released Archer 8 Ultra, its first consumer router to support Wi-Fi 8; Asus has also released new products.
