Google can turn your smartphone into a game controller to play games on Google TV. In the code of the latest version of the TV software, a function is mentioned that allows you to control games on the TV with your mobile phone. The development is currently in the early stages of internal testing.

At the Google TV Conference (version 4.39.4903.975565386.7-release), experts from Android Authority Gamepad and joystick text strings were found, as well as a new setting called GamingRemoteFeature__enable_gamepad related to enabling game mode.
The new product will likely be a development of the existing touchscreen remote, but will be adapted to gaming tasks. The overall concept is reminiscent of Android 17’s virtual gamepad for foldable smartphones, where controls appear on the device’s display, synchronized with content on another screen.
However, as Android Authority points out, touch controls may not be as convenient as regular physical controllers because users have to switch their attention between their phone and TV. Additionally, third-party apps already offer similar functionality. The exact time when this feature will appear in the public version has not been specified as development is not yet complete.
