With just a week left until Marvel’s Wolverine hits theaters, the first press reviews have begun to appear online. Overall, journalists were pleased with Insomniac Games’ new action game, but in terms of enthusiasm it fell short of all three trilogies of Marvel’s Spider-Man series.

As of release, the game has an average score of 77 on Metacritic and 81 on OpenCritic, with 79% of critics recommending it as a playthrough. Critics praised the game’s graphics, direction, optimization, story, and high level of violence. Disadvantages include a shallow system and sometimes monotonous gameplay, and not everyone will like the linear structure without an open world.

Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on September 15th and will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
