Sony Interactive Entertainment and development studio Firesprite have officially opened the pre-order phase for the PS5 exclusive horror adventure game Until Dawn 2. To the surprise of many industry observers, the publisher abandoned the just under €80 price category currently set for its upcoming first-party game. The standard version of the game is available now on the PlayStation Store for $49.99 or €49.99. As a result, the title significantly undercuts the group’s pricing for similar large-scale productions and has already sparked community discussion about the scope and concept of the sequel.
The decision to set the project at a level well below industry standards for exclusive games puts a new perspective on the development story. Following the first title from Supermassive Games, the second title is being handled by British studio Firesprite. In terms of content, horror games continue the well-known mechanics of narrative decision-making and consequences. The plot revolves around strange events at Blackwood Pine Sanatorium, and players must once again control various characters and ensure their survival.
The fact that Sony is positioning the game for just under €50 points to a tighter, more focused experience compared to the industry, with pricing in line with games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. In addition to the standard version, the person in charge also offers a digital deluxe version priced at 54.99 euros. This includes additional cosmetic content for eight playable characters as well as a digital gallery where all character deaths can be viewed in detail. Those who pre-order will also receive classic Dr. Hill costumes and collectibles as in-game rewards.
The relatively low price point may prove to be a strategic advantage for Sony. After recent first-party releases received mixed reception, the company has significantly lowered the barrier to entry for customers to help the horror genre gain a wider player base on its own platform. The coming months will reveal whether the price cuts are due to lower sales or an adjustment in sales strategy. The game is expected to be released in early 2027.
