Developer at Blizzard Entertainment broadcast “Building the Next Era” at BlizzCon 2026 shared Details about Diablo V, the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic fantasy action RPG series.

The story of Diablo V begins hundreds of years after the events of Diablo IV, with the kingdom of Westmarch destroyed by the Lord of Terror: “The heroes of the past have fallen, Sanctuary is destroyed, Diablo triumphs”.
“Diablo’s conquest of Sanctuary brings him one step closer to invading Paradise. After seizing the throne of Westmarch, he begins to exploit the hearts and souls of Sanctuary’s inhabitants in an attempt to gain the upper hand in the eternal war.”blizzard warning.

Taking on the role of the heir to Westmarch, players set out to assemble a caravan of survivors—companions ready to trade and fight—to one day transform the scorched wasteland into a prosperous region.
Diablo’s tyranny reshapes the world: landscapes, key areas, monsters, and rewards can all literally change before your eyes. Because of this mysterious connection, the protagonist is particularly vulnerable to the tyrant’s influence, but also a threat to him.
An early look at the inventory system
Blizzard also had this to say about Diablo V during its “Towards a New Era” broadcast:
- The developers introduced classes such as the Demon Hunter, the Monk, and the new Plague Knight;
- The game will release with more classes than any other Diablo game;
- Diablo V will return to procedurally generated dungeons;
- Diablo V’s item system is inspired by Diablo II – large items will again take up more bag space;
- Belts and suits are expected to return;
- The team is experimenting with equipment performance requirements;
- Announced a deep crafting system inspired by the mechanics of the Lords of Hatred add-on, as well as the runes and runic text found in Diablo II;
- Diablo V will be a darker game than Diablo IV;
- Diablo IV will continue to receive seasonal content, but there are no plans to add new paid content – the developers are moving on to Diablo V.
“Diablo V” is expected to be released in the spring of 2029 on an unknown platform. Development is still in the early stages – starting in 2027, Blizzard plans to regularly share news about the game’s progress, ideas, and planned features.
