Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced that the “Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO” anime will premiere in April 2027. Along with the news, new stills from the anime were also revealed.
XARX-ZERO is part of a cross-media initiative called the RG Project, which is set in the new post-apocalyptic Gundam universe. The project will serve as a prequel to the upcoming action game Gundam Rogue Orbit.
This new universe was created by science fiction director and screenwriter Kenji Kamiyama, best known for Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex. The story tells the story of Ray Azumi, a war orphan who pilots the Zero Gundam in the new Apocalypse (AA) timeline.
The story takes place decades ago when an alien object brought revolutionary technology to humanity, but then turned into a self-perpetuating ecosystem so hostile that it was nicknamed “The Apocalypse.” After humanity was forced off Earth, a new era began: generations of people who grew up knowing only a world shaped by the constant threat of the Apocalypse.
