MMORPG Ship of Heroes to shut down one year after launch

The developer of the superhero MMORPG “Hero Ship” has announced the end of support for the game. The project’s servers will be shut down on September 22, 2026, exactly one year from the launch date. The reason for this decision was not stated, but it is obvious – the prices online are extremely low. In the past six months, the peak number of online games on Steam has not exceeded 4 people, and the launch record has only 100 players.

In addition, after the launch of “Hero Ship”, the team size was reduced, and the game’s production progress gradually slowed down and almost stopped completely. Therefore, it was decided to stop development and shut down the server.

In the message, the author thanked the players for participating in the development: the community participated in more than 220 surveys, more than a dozen free public events and tested new features, and also left feedback on the official forum.

Hero Ship was released in 2017 and developed by a small team at Heroic Games Corporation. At the time of launch, the project caused considerable outrage in the community due to the game’s monetization (requiring the game to be purchased and paid monthly). A one-year subscription costs $144, which includes a 20% discount.

The developer then explained this monetization method, as purchasing the game and subscribing gives players access to absolutely all content and also “scares off trolls and spammers.” Subsequently, the monthly subscription was cancelled, but perhaps this approach has scared away ordinary players.
